Samoa is a postcard of natural beauty consisting of ten islands, each offering very distinct and different environments to explore. Blessed with stunning land and seascapes, and friendly people who are proud of their country, there are many versions of paradise to discover. Drive around in a day, or take a leisurely trip over a few days, or even tour by cycle over a week, or just base yourself at a resort and relax.

Upolu is home to Samoa's capital, Apia, where over 38,000 of Samoa’s 194,000 inhabitants live. Situated on a natural harbour, just 40km from Faleolo International Airport, Apia is the perfect place to acclimatise to island life, pick up some souvenirs, and get to know the cultural heritage and proud history of Samoa.

With a population of 42,000, Savai'i is third largest Polynesian island after Tahiti and New Zealand. It’s also one of the few places on earth where you can truly get away from it all and experience the simple pleasure of life.
Samoa’s largest island is known for its gentle and traditional way of life, pristine scenery and archaeological sites. A well-paved road encircles the island making it easy to explore.
Getting to Savai'i is easy – just hop on the ferry from Mulifanua Wharf in western Upolu and 90 minutes later you’ll be setting foot on the island.

Salelologa, in the southeast, is the island’s main service centre and serves as the departure and arrival point for ferries from neighbouring Upolu Island. It’s the best place to stock up on supplies, change money and arrange a rental vehicle. The local market sells food and produce and there are a couple of cafés to enjoy.

The Samoa Shipping Corporation runs the passenger/vehicle ferry between the mains islands of Upolu and Savai'i. The ferry departs from the Mulifanua Wharf on Upolu near the international airport, so if you are travelling from Apia, allow 45 minutes for the journey. The ferry departs from the Salelologa Wharf on Savaii for the return journey. The trip takes just over one hour each way and it pays to arrive early at the wharf to purchase your tickets.
